Thursday Thoughts
Thursday, I woke up earlier than usual because Jameson had to be up early for a rehearsal.
That's ok, I also went to bed earlier than usual so still got decent sleep.
I put a load of laundry in, then went out to look at the garden.
The basil is back to being insane. There will definitely be one more round of caprese sandwiches and pesto pasta before I leave.

I keep wanting to pull these cowpeas up, but they just keep producing beans, so...ok! I'll pull them up once I have enough beans for a meal.

A branch of the finger lime tree. There's a big painful thorn at the base of each leaf.

My passion vine is officially dead. You can see how the grass is brown next to the fence...we think that the HOA's lawn people sprayed something, because all of the grass is dead for the entire length of the fence.

Well you know what, f*ckers, I planted a BACKUP passion vine on the OTHER side of the fence. So SUCK IT :p

The little Joe Pye weed. The flowers look ridiculous. This plant is eventually supposed to turn into a big bush, but I think this one thrives better in the fall and cooler daytime highs.

And look, a visitor!
The rest of the pollinator garden is a big mess. Lots of weeds. But the things I planted are still doing well, which is all that matters.
After that, breakfast and researching how to get some food grade lye. The smallest increment I can find is 1-pound jars, and they're $12 a pop. Sigh. But, I'm probably going to get it. Just gonna hold off a little while, though.
When the laundry was done it was time for me to get to work.
Put the clothes away, got dressed, went to the grocery for ingredients for sliders and side salad and fries.
Back home, put the food away and did my breakfast meal prep, then practiced trombone without a mute for a full hour. Although he's said I can practice without a mute any time, when Jameson's not here I feel more comfortable making a racket.
After that, lunch, and steno until Jameson got home. I didn't take a test because I felt very tired. It's been rainy lately, and I've been constantly thinking about all the things I still want to do before tour starts, and sometimes I feel overwhelmed. Like now. I need to weed around the house, and take care of my bike, and the car will need to be detailed, and I need to pass three more steno tests quickly so I have time to get used to this new steno machine, and, and...on and on. Today I just needed a break.
When Jameson got home he was tired too, we chatted a bit and then he did some grading while I lay perfectly still in the spare bedroom for like 40 minutes. Just not moving, not sleeping, not thinking either. I just needed to be still for whatever reason.
But then we got a letter from the HOA about the weeds in the cracks of the driveway (apparently that's a problem) so I went out to take care of that while Jameson continued his work. After that it was pretty much dinner time so I got cleaned up and prepped the veggies and pretzel rolls. I opened a pack of chicken gouda sausaged from Omaha steaks (Jameson doesn't eat sausage, I'll just pack them in my lunches this week) and cooked those in a skillet, then seasoned some ground beef and formed slider-sized patties. Well, I thought they were slizer-sized, but after they cooked down they were too small. Whoops. But they still tasted good.
I made a chicken gouda sausage slider with lettuce, tomato, and sriracha mayo. Pickle and veggie tots on the side.

After dinner we both felt a little better, so Jameosn worked on Christmas music while I bucked down for some more steno.
Somewhere in there a package arrived, it was my tiny skillet! Look how cute!

Here it is with a Sharpie for scale. It's about a 6-7" cooking surface.

This will be good for not eating out so much.
I can make pretty much any meal for one in it.
I'll have to figure out how this is going in the suitcase. Jameson suggested like a squishy cooler box to hold it? Maybe.
I'm also going to be testing the skillet, immersion heater, and hairdryer before packing them, so look forward to those reviews haha.
After that I cleaned up and packed my lunch for work.
I tried to be healthy. Pretzel roll, chicken gouda sausage, spinach tomato carrot cucumber salad, roasted sesame and edamame, apple, Greek yogurt.
I'm going to work for the next two days, but starting Sunday my work schedule is a bit changed so I can help out in the training department. I'll have Sunday off, work a regular Monday thru Friday workweek, and have Saturday off.
Oh, and before I go...
I'll just leave this here...
