I’ve worked as a consultant before and had that “we may have some work for you a few months from now” call. Then you wait and wait and nothing. Then, you take another one and the first one calls.
I guess it’s better than no call. But, there was a while I was doing 7 to 5 at one place and 6 to 10 at another for a couple of months because of it.
