For sure, if I hadn’t been able to make the 7pm it would’ve been ok. It was a big ask for anyone, even living close as I do (we’re behind Animal Kingdom/Four Corners area.) But you need three trombones to make block chords in music, so if one is missing it sucks. And it was *possible* to make it so I wanted to try!
If someone is doing ANY work for Disney at all, even just for one night, they have gone through full employee orientation and are considered Castmembers. The Tampa-based musician who played next to me was offered the actual trombone chair, and a contract, and went through a weeklong orientation. His contract guaranteed multiple nights of pay at union musician rates. And his Castmember status gives him free access to all of the parks for free, for a full year, plus the opportunity to be called for other Disney work. That’s well worth the drive (or the couch surfing.) Even for a sub like me the opportunities this gig offers would have been worth the drive.
