You're so right though about the 1980s animatronics that Disney's been able to "get away with" all this time. From what I've seen of EPIC, Disney's going to have to really throw some money at innovating their parks! (I wish they'd do that with a Retroland and modernize and bring back the classic, original dark rides that made the parks great -- Horizons, Journey, Mr. Toad...!)
