After Fully Charged, I was fortunate to get about two weeks to myself.

I came home for Thanksgiving. My aunt and stepmom (I call her mom, and my birth mom 'mother') picked me up from the airport. It was a strange feeling to be back home, and nice too.

While home I took care of some boring business, such as maintaining my car, packing some stuff to bring to the train, and dragging excess clothing to the thrift store.

After that was done, I got to enjoy some fun with family!
For my aunt's birthday, my mom and sister and I went to the Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster, PA.
Even if you're not into Biblical stories, you should go at least once in your life.
The sets, lighting and staging are AMAZING. They all move.
This boat used in Jonah rotated a full 180 degrees and opened to reveal an internal stage.

Live animals are used in most shows. They are trained and housed near the theatres.
The actors/singers are pretty decent too ;)

While in Lancaster, we shopped at Kitchen Kettle Village and ate at Bird-in-Hand Family Inn.
It was a very enjoyable day!

The following weekend, I took my sister Kate and brother Jonah down to North Carolina to see their aunt (my mother's sister). We had a very limited time to spend with her, but it was certainly better than no time at all!
We spent a great deal of time talking and catching up.
My brother and sister haven't seen our aunt for at least two years, so there was a LOT to say.
My step-family (includes my little brother) is going through a tough time right now,
so that was mostly what we talked about.
The holidays always seem to be a time for tough love and heart-to-hearts.
But that's how families survive :)

We took Jonah to see NC State and although the admissions office was closed, we were able to see a great deal of the campus. It's big and beautiful, but he's applying to several schools of varying sizes. I can't wait to see where he ends up, and where his path will take him!!

During our visit we enjoyed our aunt's new house, complete with woodsy backyard, vaulted ceilings and pool room. Jonah creamed us all at pool :P
We walked her dog together, watched a movie, and ate out several times.
I was very sorry to leave. Hopefully next time we'll get more time...

The drive back was long but fun because I was with my brother and sister.
Also, I've missed driving!

Thanksgiving was nice too! My parents made an awesome spread including turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, broccoli casserole, spinach dip w/pumpernickel bread, and apple pie :)

We ate and played games and had a great time.

At the end of the week, I went to my 10-year high school reunion!

It was strange to see everyone after such a long time!
Some people have changed a lot, some not at all.
Some people are struggling with family illnesses, relationships, or employment.
Others are very successful and happy in their current lifestyles.
Many people are married and have houses, cars and kids. Boy I feel old!
I got to reconnect with some old friends, and converse with some people that I had been too shy to approach back in high school. Our class was pretty cool...not too cliquish :) Most people stayed at least an hour. By the time I left around 10:30, the group was considering continuing the party at another bar. It was great to see everyone getting along so well and having f
un!

Today I had a nice ride to the airport with my parents. We parted ways in Williamsport.
They've got a charity event tonight...hopefully there will be good attendance!

Right now I'm in Philly waiting on the flight to Tampa.
There's a lot to do when I get back to the train...laundry mostly, and unpacking, and groceries.

To everyone reading this, hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!
Currently I'm at the Philly airport waiting for the flight to Tampa.

Tonight (10/30) Hurricane Sandy is hitting the east coast. We're en route from Rochester to Pittsburgh, but the weather doesn't seem to affect our train much. The circus train weighs something like 4300 tons (that's 8,600,000lbs!) so the 90mph wind gusts were hardly noticeable. I hear NYC was hit pretty hard, and NJ too. Hang in there, tri-state peeps :/

(next day)
We arrived in Pittsburgh this morning and were spotted around noon.
It was raining pretty hard. When it slowed to a steady drizzle I went for a walk.

Living in train yards, you don't always end up in the nicest places.
I walked to a nearby grocery to get vanilla.

In the last city I picked up a quince, not knowing that you have to cook 'em for like two hours in an oven :/
I tried to poach it on my hot plate using water, honey, lemon, the vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

It was supposed to turn pink...oh well. Still tastes good! Like a baked apple or pear. Although poaching either of those fruits would have been way easier :P

Pittsburgh is our second-to-last city, and the only city we've visited in my home state.
About a decade ago (yep feeling old),
I participated in a PMEA All-State concert here at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

I was SUCH a band geek when I was a kid!
Can't believe I'm posting this in public. Here's me and my best friend Lauren circa 2002.

Dorky!
It was a strange and nostalgic feeling to return to this city as a professional musician.
I feel a little pride, and a little humility; a little old and a lot happy.
