Easter Week
Apr. 16th, 2020 09:20 pmIt was a shorter than usual week for me due to Easter.
I had two days of work, then on Sunday I enjoyed a day off with my Jameson.
We didn't do a whole lot (there's not a whole lot to do!) He recently got into Animal Crossing so I watched him play that and a few other games with some of his friends. I enjoyed my garden and did some video chats with family for the Easter holiday. It was good to see my little brother and sister and know they're doing all right despite the circumstances.
On Monday I received the face masks that my friend Sarah made for us.
I'm sad we have to wear them, but at least they look really cool and were made by a friend!

I wore mine to work on Tuesday and spent the day trying to figure out when to have it on and when to take it off and making adjustments to the fit and trying not to touch it. It was weird. I felt like it was a good thing to have on when I do floor walks, which puts me in proximity to a lot of people in cubicles. I also wore it to go to/from the communal dining area because lots of people pass through there. But when I was captioning or just sitting at my desk doing work I took it off. And halfway through the day I sprayed it with a 70% alcohol solution. I think that pattern will work.
My days off were kind of stressful. No real reason for it, just sometimes I get in this weird mental zone where I feel an overwhelming urgency to get things done, even though in reality there's not a lot TO do and no deadline for doing it. I don't know why I get in these moods but they're really annoying and tend to cloud my lovely down time.
I think in part this feeling was triggered by waking up on Wednesday to find that armyworms had come in the night and eaten 90% of my purple basil plant. I was SO PISSED to find two HUGE caterpillars taking a nap under my mint plant and three smaller caterpillars munching away. Took them out and squished them, then tried spraying the garden with neem oil. And then it started raining so that was a waste of my time. I mean it's not like I was using much of the purple basil in any case, but it just feels very violating to have something come destroy a thing you've grown yourself. Meh, it was bound to happen at some point anyway.
But that started my day off in a mood and made me feel irrationally like I needed to "do something", so I spent extra time on stenography and took a stressy trip to the grocery with Jameson and couldn't make a decision about what to do for dinner to save my life. Thankfully Jameson picked frozen chicken kiev with rice. It tasted fine, especially with a big glass of wine that I apparently needed.
Jameson has had a stressful week too. His students are making LOOOOOOTS of excuses and not submitting assignments, but he has to be as understanding as possible due to the circumstances. The frustrating thing is that some people legitimately need more time to complete assignments because their kids are now home, or a loved one is sick, or their work situation has changed. But then there are people who are just taking advantage of the situation to not do their work. I can see how frustrated he is with them, and also with his coworkers who don't always have it together themselves either.
I wonder when all this will be "over" so that things can "start" getting back to "normal".
During the week we worked on a puzzle that my sister Kayle sent us.
Puzzles are actually kinda hard to come by right now since everyone is buying them up. We had a good time assembling this together, each of us doing about 50/50. It was a relaxing, engaging, and stress-releasing activity. I think we'd like to do more puzzles in the future!

Anyway. Purple basil aside, the rest of my little garden seems fine.
I'm SUPER impressed with how quickly the passion fruits are growing! I wonder if they will taste any good when they are ready.

On Friday it rained pretty much all day, so we didn't get to go on our usual walk.
I felt pretty lazy, but still wrote an essay for school and did some prep for work tomorrow and practiced my steno.
I also had a video chat with my family (nothing new, a good thing) and made chicken taquitos for dinner.
Jameson made this same recipe when we had friends over to the house, and I've been craving them ever since!
I thought it would be fun to use multi-colored carrots. Paired with a red bell pepper, onions, and celery, they made a nice rainbow!

They look a lot less colorful after being cooked and mixed with a bunch of chicken and hot sauce :P
But still, very tasty! Gonna enjoy having these for lunch tomorrow at work too!

I am sad that the weekend is over already, but hopeful that it will be an OK work week and maybe next week will be good too.
Oh, one last thing. I got my economic emergency check.
It's not that exciting for me...while that amount of extra cash is greatly useful, I am also very aware that I have a job, I have the tools to get through this, and there are many other people who need that money much more than I do, not to mention the fact that with this we will never, never be out of debt as a country. Ever. I wonder how future generations will judge us for the choice to do this.
It was direct deposited, so I can't exactly send it back or refuse to deposit it.
I suppose all I can do, the best I can do, is spend it on local businesses, and on my schooling.
Life is so weird.
