Plants, Work, Rest
Feb. 27th, 2020 08:23 pmThis week I maintained my new plants as best I could, which really wasn't very well. I just kept an eye on all of them to make sure no one was wilting or scorched or bug-eaten or otherwise unhappy.
You've all seen enough pics of my tomatoes, herbs, and flowers. Here are my meyer lemon, vanilla orchid, and passion fruit vine.
These are all new plants exhibiting new growth over the past week. Yay!

Work is going a little better, I feel less stressed because I'm starting to manage my time appropriately. And I've started to care less when there are things I can't finish. The workload is such that at some point, I'm just not going to be able to keep up. I can tell this by looking at my coworkers, whose teams are two or three times the size of mine. While I feel nervous about holding a team meeting for six people, they have to organize and schedule three separate meetings for their teams of 12 or 18 or 24.
I'm less stressed now, but there's a strong sense that it's just a temporary calm before the storm.
About my team meeting, it was actually really nice. I've never been very social or a good host, and I don't like to be the center of attention. So putting people in a room and making them listen to me is kind of the last thing I want to do. But when there's no avoiding it, the least I can do is bring good snacks and try to make people feel as comfortable as possible. To that end I got Insomnia Cookies, Lindt truffles, chips, and Capri Sun (shaddup, they're an easy beverage!) I followed the meeting agenda, but also left time for general shooting the sh*t and airing of grievances. This led to some good discussion, which is nice because I get to pass that on to my supervisor.
As we started to pack it up, I joked about how I probably wouldn't be able to bring good snacks for the next meeting since my group would be twice as large. One of my team members suggested that I just bring good snacks for the Original Group members, and give the others saltines. The rest of the group agreed enthusiastically and had a genuine laugh. We also had two group members find out that they both love to play D&D, and I saw them exchanging information later on. These things kinda made me feel good. Like I was able to maybe aid in creating some camaraderie up in here.
On Saturday Jameson and I went to see a production of Cabaret put on by the members of a local volunteer theatre group that we've both worked with in the past. They did a really excellent job, but I think neither of us were prepared for how dark that musical is! Geez! Anyway it was a fun time, I've heard or played Cabaret medleys before but had never seen the show. Thanks for taking me my dear!
For my days off, I worked in the yard while Jameson worked on some arrangements for a client and his parts for Mama Mia, which he'll be performing in the spring. I weeded the front yard, the sides of the house, and around the pool screen. I laid a few more bags of mulch in areas we hadn't covered previously. I put down some top soil near the front yard tree hoping to level out that area some. And I did something kinda sneaky: while Jameson was at his gig on Thursday, I snuck through a hole in the fence bordering our property and planted some wildflowers!!
It was a lot of work. The area behind our house is part of a wildlife reserve/swamp and is not maintained by anyone. I had to rip out a lot of old dead plants and uproot lots of weeds, and there was a lot of trash back there too. At least the soil was soft and sandy so that once I got it cleared it was pretty easy to turn. I cleared an area probably about 6ft long by 1ft wide behind the fence. I worked in some of the leftover fertilized soil that I'd gotten for the passion fruit vine. Then I opened two big packets of wildflower seeds, scattered them over the dirt, and sort of gently worked them into the soil. There were a LOT of seeds, so I threw more than half of them into the areas I hadn't cleared as well. You never know what might take.
I'm doing this because there are almost no flowering plants behind our house. My neighbor is installing a papaya tree, and I want to have passion fruit and strawberries along the fence, so I feel like we really need to attract some pollinators. It'll be interesting to see what happens!
Let's see, what else. Jameson has got me "playing" Sims 4 with him...I don't actually play, but he made me a character and I give input on what it does in the game. Early on I was given the option to go into a life of crime. HECK YES!! So far it's a lot of fun picking fights and coming home with weird spy stuff, plus my Sim has an evil cackle! But recently I was tasked with watching another Sim die!!! Dang!! That escalated quickly. Meanwhile Jameson's Sim is on the path to becoming a master chef and bodybuilder, and he's recently done the dirty with a blonde he met at the gym. Crazy!
Currently it's Thursday and Jameson is at his gig. I've packed my lunch, ironed my clothes, prepped my breakfasts for the week, cleaned the shower, swept the garage, done laundry, and wiped down the kitchen. Now it's time to relax. I love spending time with my Jameson, but it's also nice to have a night to yourself once in a while :)
