Working in the Circus

This post is for all the people who’ve asked me about applying for a job in the circus.
First, the general information!
If you are a NON-MUSICIAN looking to tour, check out the Feld Entertainment career website for available jobs throughout the company:
http://www.feldentertainment.com/careers.aspx
If you’re a MUSICIAN or PERFORMER, go here to see how and where to send your materials in:
http://www.feldentertainment.com/performerauditions.aspx
Keep in mind that most of Feld’s productions are tours, meaning that extensive travel is involved. If you join the circus, you’ll be living completely on the road. Be prepared for that before you apply.
Another note for musicians:
Feld doesn’t advertise openings for musicians on its career site.
From what I understand, all you can do is submit your materials and if something comes up, they’ll have it on file and can decide whether to offer you a job.
I’d be glad to put in a good word if you do decide to send in an application…just let me know you’ve sent one in!
If I hear about any openings in the bands, I will post about it here or on facebook. In the meantime, I’d really appreciate it if you could please not ask whether there are any openings for your instrument. Thanks:)
That’s the basics!
Now, I would like to say something.
I’m sorry in advance if this comes across wrong, but it needs to be said, so please take it with a grain of salt.
Two things:
First, I am more than happy to put in a good word for you and/or put you in touch with the right people to get a job here.
But YOU need to apply!!
I can tell you what it’s like to tour with the circus, I can suggest departments to apply to or people to contact, or I can let you know when an opening is available. But I’m sorry, I CAN’T submit an application for you or talk anyone here into handing you a job. If you need more information and are serious about applying, I’ll do whatever I can to help you out. But PLEASE don’t ask me to “get you in”. No-Can-Do!
If you want a job here, put yourself out there and apply!
Secondly, please do not ask me for info about the pay rate, benefits, etc.
It is inappropriate for me to share that information with you.
Circus employees are under a variety of contracts and agreements that vary depending on the year they joined, the type of job they hold, etc.
My contract and my terms will have nothing to do with what you may be offered if you apply here.
Even if I could tell you what your pay would be, it doesn’t matter if you don’t APPLY!
No one can offer you anything until you do that!
Thanks for listening :)
